5 Handy Tips For Prism Photography

Photography will never get boring as long as you keep experimenting new ways to add flare and glare to your work.

One way to make photography and even videography more interesting, is to use the prisms for the extra stunning shots.

Here are a few tips that will help you get your prism photography and videography going. The final decision ultimately lies with you.

Get the right prism: I usually recommend trying out different types of prisms until you get exactly what you’re looking for. Different sizes and volumes of prisms work differently.

Use Triangular Prism: If you are planning to use your prism in videography, you want to get yourself a decent triangular prism that you can hold in your hands. Long enough not to see your hand in the frame of the shot.

Go Manual: The last thing you want is waving your prism in front of a lens in auto focus mode. This will keep changing the focus and you might spend a great deal of time trying to get a shot.

Use a Wide aperture: For you to see the glre and flare of the prism and still get enough of your subject in full focus, you need your lens as wide as possible. At least F2 if not wider.

Hold your prism as close to the lens as possible: From my experience, the best results are achieved with the prism as close to the lens as possible. But this is subjective depending on what shot you’re looking for exactly.
